Cali to host 2013 World Games

The Colombian city of Cali will host the 2013 edition of the World
Games. This was announced during this year’s edition in Taiwan.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) announced that Cali was chosen mainly for its “strong presentaion and local support”, which were key factors in the decision.

The Colombian delegation reacted to the election saying that “there are so many new sports coming for the first time to Latin America, not to Colombia, to Latin America.

“We have to learn those new sports and we have to teach those new sports to the surrounding countries where they don’t know about these sports as well, and that’s very exciting because another feature of the World Games is that they’re so cultural. It’s an expression of culture.”

The World Games, a collection of sports that aren’t part of the Olympic Games, are organised every four years and are currently being held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. After the fifth day of the event, Colombia occupies the eighth position on the medal table. Ten of the eleven medals (including three Gold) were won at Roller Sports Speed, while one silver was won at bowling.
