Cali to celebrate 4th International Blues Festival

by Angela González September 27, 2010

The blues are back in the Colombian capital of salsa as the city of Cali prepares for the 4th International Blues Festival.

The festival will kick off on September 28 with blues concerts from US groups JP Soars and the Red Hots and the Sean Carney Band at the Colombo-American Center. The Sean Carney Band has given performances worldwide, from the US blues capitals of Baton Rouge and Memphis to Germany, Canada, the Czech Republic, Ecuador and Costa Rica.

Local blues groups the Outlouders and Victor Roll and the Blue Note will also give performances in the week long blues celebration. Blues fever has spread as far as Pereira and the blues trio Kazoo will also present.

For the next 5 days, the city will host workshops for local musicians. Artists will also be giving workshops on the history of the US blues movement at the Hispano-American Foundation. Blues lovers can also attend concerts at venues thoughout the city.

The festival will conclude on October 2. The event was made possible through support from the US Embassy, the Jazz Foundation, and local entities.

Those wishing to attend concerts must reserve tickets before hand at the Colombo-American Center, Comfandi, the Javeriana University and the Hispano-American Foundation. Entry to all events is free and two tickets will be reserved per ID.
