Cali releases schedule of annual feria

Colombia’s third largest city Cali released the program for this year’s feria, a vibrant mix of salsa, horse riding and dance parties that electrifies the ”Capital of Salsa.”

The fair is the most important cultural event in Cali and consists of five days of parades, festivals and concerts.

The first of five days worth of events is the “Salsodromo,” a parade of dancers from all over Cali that is said to reflect the city’s love for salsa to the point that it is in their DNA. Salsa schools from all over the area come to take part in the parade. This year sees a school from Cuba invited to take part.

December 26th sees the “Cabalgata” or ”The Ride”, a horseback ride taken up by 5,000 riders through Cali’s streets.

The celebrations continue on the 27th with the Orchestra Festival, a 12-hour long festival of orchestras of all sorts.

The 28th of December sees the Concert of Romantic and Popular Music. With local bands and guests from other areas performing original songs and covers. There will also be a parade on the same day incorporating stilt walkers, drag queens and salsa dancers.

On the 29th the values and traditions of the large Black population of the Pacific Coast will be celebrated with a fair of craft and food stalls and concerts displaying the Afro?Colombian history in the area. On the same day local classic car owners will parade through the city, giving everyone a chance to see their vintage cars. This will be the last parade of the fair.

The fair will be closed on the 30th with the ”Farewell Orchestra” seeing a ”grand” end to the 55th annual Cali fair.
