A 73-year-old Cali priest was forced to resign after one of his two girlfriends exposed their sexual relationship.
High church officials told Spanish press agency Efe on Thursday that priest Rodrigo Carvajal Vargas had handed in his resignation note on Wednesday.
The priest was forced to leave his post at the La Merced church after one of his lovers made public allegations that the supposedly abstinent church official had had sexual relations with her for three years, at the same time as living with another woman for 20 years without the church noticing.
The church announced an investigation into the priest’s somewhat exceptional interpretation of celibacy.
