Cali police free US citizen from captivity

Cali Police say they liberated a US citizen that was kidnapped by a criminal gang little over a month ago.

According to the commander of Cali’s anti-kidnapping squad, Luis Alberto Pérez Alvarán, the woman is in good health.

Kidnapped Cynthia Hurtado was born in New York, but has lived in Colombia for many years, the police commander told news agency AP.

A 16-year-old minor who was guarding the hostage was arrested in the rescue operation.

Hurtado had not been kidnapped by guerrillas or paramilitaries, but common criminals, the Police say.
