Cali have points deducted after stadium violence

The disturbances during the Copa Colombia match between Deportivo Cali
and local rivals América de Cali forced national federation Dimayor to
take away Cali’s points in favor of América.

This was officially announced by the federation on Wednesday.

The match, which took place on Wednesday, May 6th, was suspended when a group of home fans invaded the pitch with a large fight as result. At this point, Cali were up 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from José Hernández.

Cali were initially awarded the three points but Dimayor now ruled differently. As a result of this decision, Cali drop from fourth to fifth place in Group 5 of the Copa Colombia group stage. This group is currently led by Deportivo Pasto and Deportes Quindío, who are on course for a spot in the next round.

Apart from the loss of points, Cali as well as América play their next three home games behind closed doors. Both teams also have to pay a fine of close to five million Colombian pesos.
