Cali celebrates regional cusine with food festival

Cali will be celebrating its regional gastronomy with the second annual Maria’s Flavor Festival on November 27.

The festival, at the Caña Museum and nearby Piedechinche estate, will offer the entire range of flavors produced and enjoyed in the department of Valle de Cauca.

Fourteen different businesses will represent various sectors of the valley, bringing ancestral recipes, interesting ingredients, and the Cali spice of life to the the beautiful estate.

In addition to food, Cali culture will be strongly represented, with dance displays from traditional sugar cane cutters and world champion dance group Swing Latino, and a rustic tour of the area in “calambuco” wagons – a traditional vehicle used in local agricultural production.

Organizers say it is a way to rescue, preserve, and reinvent the traditions of ancient cuisine in the Valle del Cauca. The name “Maria” comes from the main character in the novel “Maria,” written by Jorge Isaacs.

The festival starts at 9AM, with visitors of all ages welcome. Tickets are $18 and can be brought through the Destino Paraiso website. People wanting to attend should buy their tickets soon, as only a limited number are available.
