Caceres ordered to be moved to jail

Colombia’s prison authority on Monday ordered senator Javier Caceres to be moved to jail, following certification of his health by doctors. He had been rushed to the hospital for diabetes-related health problems on the day of his arrest for alleged paramilitary ties.

The Former Senate President Caceres was arrested September 14 due to allegations that the now-defunct paramilitary group Heroes de Montes de Maria financed at least one of his election campaigns. Later that day he went to hospital with a diabetes-related condition. He was declared stable last Friday.

Doctors will now have to certify that his health is such that he can be moved to the prison, where he will wait until the court determines whether or not they will bring charges.
