China business leaders seek to invest in Colombia’s Cartagena

A group of Chinese businessmen met with the interim mayor of Cartagena Thursday to discuss investment opportunities.

The entrepreneurs are seeking to bring manufacturing jobs to the city, and this was welcomed by Acting Mayor Carlos Otero.

In the two-hour meeting, Otero stated that Chinese investments in Cartagena would assist the city’s entrepreneurs.

Daniel Li, a member of the trade mission, expressed similar sentiments and told local newspaper El Heraldo that people needed to consider treaties with the United States, China, and Europe. “This is not about coming here, recognizing an opportunity, and then leaving,” said Li.

The Chinese businessmen, who visited Cartagena once before, are expected to return for further talks in the coming months.
