Buses in the western Colombian city of Cali are at a stand still for the second consecutive day due to driver strikes, reported Colombian media.
The strike, which began Wednesday, was organized by private bus and mini-van owners who are protesting the implementation of a government-run public transport system in the city.
Protesters on Wednesday morning marched the Cali streets blocking the routes of several of the public transport vehicles and causing difficulties for many residents attempting to reach their place of work.
The city’s local government has announced that residents that on Thursday will be allowed to disregard “pico y placa” regulations, which normally restrict private vehicles from driving at particular times of day.
During protests the city’s worst effected areas were Terron Colorado, Menga and Floralia. However, recent reports state that traffic is once again running smoothly in most parts of the city.
