Two days after the fatal bus accident on the road from Medellín to
Quibdó, a passenger was found alive and immediately transported to a
nearby hospital.
The survivor, soldier Edison Hernández, was found at about three kilometers from where the bus crashed into a 200-meter deep abyss, killing at least 21 on board.
In a short interview with Caracol Radio, Hernández said that from where he was, he could observe two or three other survivors that are waiting to be rescued. Authorities are now aiming to send helicopters in order to do so.
Hernández fractured a rib and suffers from hypothermia, but appears to be in reasonable health despite having to endure heavy rains and low temperatures since the crash.
The bus was on its way from Medellín to the capital of Chocó, Quibdó, and why it went off the road is unknown up till this moment. However, local sources claim that the road is in a bad state, often causing dangerous situations.
