Brother of State Council President assassinated

Hitmen assassinated the brother of State Council President Enrique Gil Botero in Medellín.

Luciano Gil Botero was killed by two hitmen on a motorcycle in the Belén / Las Playas area in the south east of Colombia’s second largest city.

According to a Medellín police commander, the 41-year old engineer was in a car with two friends when the hitmen shot him. He was taken to hospital where he died a few minutes after arrival.

Police offer a 50 million peso (US$24 thousand) reward for information leading to the assassins. According to police commander Rafael Parra Garzón, the police is investigating several possible scenarios, but ruled out the murder had anything to do with the victim’s brother.

The State Council is the highest administrative court in Colombia.
