British man shot and killed in Medellin

Police are investigating the murder of a British man killed in an apparent attempted robbery in Medellin, local media reported Monday.

The U.K. citizen was murdered in the upmarket suburb of Belen on Saturday when two men tried to rob him of a golden chain while he was waiting at a traffic light.

According to the reports, the victim was fatally shot in the chest while resisting the robbery.

Although a formal identification has not yet taken place, according to documents discovered on the victim, he is between 20 and 25 years old. He had apparently been living in the city for some months and at the time of the incident he was traveling in a vehicle owned by a friend.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
