Colombia were not able to shock tournament favorites Brazil at the
South American Sub-20 Championships in Venezuela, losing the match 2-1.
Brazil completely dominated the first half. Walter opened the score on the half hour and Douglas Costa doubled the advantage five minutes later.
Whereas Colombia made it a habit to do better in the first half than in the second at this tournament, it was the opposite this time around. The men in yellow attacked much more after the break and even scored back as Hernan Pertuz converted a penalty on 73 minutes.
The Colombians continued to pressurize Brazil in the remainder of the match but no more goals were scored.
Colombia now need a victory over Argentina on Sunday to have a chance of qualifying for this summer’s youth World Cup in Egypt. Brazil had already qualified for that tournament, and are practically certain of winning this tournament.
