Boy commits suicide over practical joke

by Adriaan Alsema May 6, 2009

Colombia news - Armenia

A twelve-year-old boy from central Colombia committed suicide after a
practical joke by neighbors led him to believe he would be blamed for
the robbery of his parent’s house.

The boy had been put in charge of watching the humble house in Armenia while his parents were away. The boy, skiving his responsibilities, went to play football with his friends instead.

Neighbors, wanting to teach the boy a lesson in responsibility and not to leave the house unattended, broke into the boy’s home and removed a number of white goods.

When the boy returned home and found the house robbed, he apparently was so terrified of the reaction of his parents that he hung himself.

Investigators of the prosecution are looking into the matter to see if there may have been other reasons for the boy to commit suicide.
