Bomb defused at airport in north-east Colombia

Colombian military forces on Sunday defused a cylinder bomb at an airport in north-eastern Colombia, near the border with Venezuela.

The cylinder, loaded with explosives, was planted near the landing area of the airport of Tibu.

“The bomb was to be activated with a controlled electric system, during the daily activities in the airport, so … we prevented a big tragedy, because the target was the users of the planes,” the military authorities said in a statement.

The military authorities also said the bomb was planted by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

Also on Sunday, the Colombian police deactivated an explosive device at a bus station in Neiva city, in the southern part of the country. They also attributed the failed attack to FARC.
