Bogus lawyer captured in court

A phony lawyer was detained in court whilst defending an alleged rapist in Colombia’s Valle del Cauca department.

According to El Pais, investigations indicate that Bernardo Vanegas Trejos is not on the National Register of Lawyers and that his professional card belongs to another person.

Vanegas will be charged with identity fraud and using false documents. He has been practising as a lawyer for 10 years and has worked on civil, labour, and administrative cases. He has also taught law.

The imposter was captured by members of the Judicial Police, in court room number two, in the Palace of Justice in Cartago. The person he was defending is charged with the rape of 14-year-old.
