Bogotá’s extended Pico y Placa under fire

Bogotá’s ‘Pico y Placa’ system, which was recently extended to last all day, might have to be reduced again.

This at least according to congress member Nicolás Uribe, who submitted a draft that might get in the way of Bogotá mayor Samuel Moreno’s plans.

The draft states that the amount of hours inhabitants must keep their cars at home during the day, should never be more than seven. At this moment, the amount is 14. The Primary Commission of the Colombian House of Representatives passed the draft this Wednesday, making a final approval more likely.

Moreno received severe criticism after applying the extended system. Many complain about traffic jams not having reduced, while others worry about the large amount of citizens that now need to use public transport without having more buses at their disposal.

In addition, street vendors complained about their income having gone down significantly since last month.
