Bogota unveils online human rights library and portal

Bogota presented a new online human rights library, the largest in Latin America, as well as a human rights portal where victims can post complaints about abuses and seek advice.

The library and portal were announced on Friday by the Human Rights Ombudsman, a Colombian government agency. The library will contain more than 12,000 texts with information on various organizations committed to protecting human rights, including the U.N. and inter-American organizations. It will also include a collection of treaties, laws, court rulings, and public policy regulations on human rights.

The online portal will provide information on available academic and technical training programs on human rights offered by the ombudsman. The portal will also serve as a networking site were users can meet other Colombians concerned with human rights.  Finally users can submit stories and photos chronicling abuse to the agency through the portal and receive advice and instructions from the portal’s administrators.

The portal can be accessed at www.esceuladederechoshumanos.co.
