The capital at the moment offers free education until the 6th grade. The inclusion of the extra five years of free education will benefit more than a million children.
According to Bogota mayor Samuel Moreno, “all students who enrolled in the school system will benefit from free education in 2010. Parents will be able to save money they used for paying tuition and the students will receive food supplements delivered by the District.”
According to the city’s Education Secretary, Abel Rodriguez, “education is a right and an obligation,” stressing the responsibility of parents to send their children to school.
