Bogota remains the number one destination for international travelers to Colombia, according to the capital’s Tourism Institute.
The director said that Colombia is most popular among people from the U.S., Venezuela, Chile, Peru, France, and Spain, who come to enjoy the Andean nation’s cultural activities, nightlife, cuisine, and nature. Bogota’s legendary gold museum tops the list as the most visited attraction in the capital city itself.
Tourism in Bogota is growing “at a rate of around 5%, which represents about 400,000 tourists in the course of a year,” Vargas said.
“We hope to grow around 10% this year, that means that by the end of the year, we will finish with about 700,000 tourists,” she added.
Vargas said that the Tourism Institute was working to ensure that Bogota is internationally recognized as a destination for business, culture and innovation. In the next few days, the director will present a tourist security plan to the Bogota city council. The plan seeks to improve security conditions for visitors to the city.
