Bogota Mayor Samuel Moreno on Friday asked several judicial and financial authorities to investigate corruption allegations against his administration.
In an open letter, published on the mayor’s website, Moreno asked the Inspector General, the Prosecutor General, the Comptroller General, the capital’s Ombudsman, the capital’s Comptroller and the capital’s public works watchdog, to “proceed with investigations with the purpose of scrutinizing the conduct of officials and clarify complaints” about the mayor’s allegedly fraudulent granting of public works.
The Bogota mayor has come under fire and is politically isolated after accusations that he personally received a commission of a construction company for contracts his administration granted to the company.
One year before local elections, Moreno’s administration has been under pressure over the delay in carrying out public works, and soaring crime rates. One year before local elections, the mayor’s approval rating sunk to 25%.
