Bogotá man kills pub manager over smoking ban

The
incident happened late Wednesday, when a man who was drinking liquor in
a central Bogota bar became furious when a waiter asked him not to
smoke, in line with a ruling in place since earlier this month that
forbids smoking in public places.

The man ignored the
request, so the waiter called on the bar manager, who decided to stop
selling liquor to the troublemaker.

The customer then stabbed
the waiter and ran away. The bar manager caught up with him, but the
attacker in turn stabbed and killed the manager with the same weapon.

The smoking ban applicable to bars, cafes, restaurants, shopping
centres, airports, stadiums, offices, schools and universities, among
others, has been generally well-received by the Colombian population. (DPA)
