Bogota concert to raise money for flood victims

A charity concert to be held in Bogota in May will raise money for victims affected by last year’s heavy winter rains, Caracol Radio reported on Wednesday.

Organisers of the “Voces Solidarias” concert, Telefonica Colombia will donate all money raised from the ticket sales to rebuilding schools damaged by the winter floods.

An expected amount of COP1 billion ($530,000) will be donated to the charity group Colombia Humanitaria, announced Director and Colombian First Lady Mrs Santos.

“At this point it remains a priority of the Telefonica group to work on the recovery of the future of children who were affected by the winter floods and rebuild their education and their future,” said Alfonso Gomez Palacio, executive chairman of Telefonica Colombia.

An estimated 2 million victims were affected by the heavy rains over an unusually long 2010-2011 winter season.

Alejandro Sanz, Amaia Montero, Andres Cepeda, Brito, Camo, Santiago Cruz and Sebastian Yepes have so far been announced in the concert line-up. The concert will be held in Parque Simon Bolivar on May 7, 2011.

The tickets went on sale on Wednesday and cost between COP20,000 and COP150,000 ($10-$80).

Colombian customers of telephone company Movistar will also be able to donate through an SMS service.
