Bogota was found to receive the highest number of foreign tourists per year of any destination in Colombia, reported El Tiempo on Tuesday.
According to statistics collected by Colombia’s tourism agency Proexport and security agency DAS the country’s capital last year received 51% of the total number of foreign visitors to the country. That is to say; of the 1,353,760 tourists visiting the country, 692,826 visited Bogota.
The historic city of Cartagena was found to be the country’s second biggest destination, receiving 155,264 visitors, and Antioquian capital Medellin was third with 143,093.
The study also found that of all the tourist attractions the city has to offer, the most popular are the Gold Museum, the historic Candelaria center and the Salt Cathedral.
Facilities for tourists visiting the capital city have been developing in recent months. A new website called esBogota.com, created through a collaboration between the Regional Tourism Institute, the Bogota Chamber of Commerce and the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, was launched on Tuesday with the aim of promoting the capital city as an exciting and attractive tourist destination.
