Bogota 2009 festivals in the park

by Kirsten Begg May 7, 2009

colombia news - rock al parque

Bogota is gearing up for much rumba in the second half of 2009 with a series of festivals in the Park.

Events organizers had planned to kick off the line-up with Colombia al Parque, a smorgasbord of national and international music, including artists from India, Ghana and Mali. Mexican festival Ollin Kan was to be featured but organizers have postponed the event indefinitely due to travel restriction caused by the AH1N1 virus.

Rock al Parque, the biggest open air rock festival in Latin America, is celebrating its 15th birthday this year. It will run from 23 and June 29 and will feature more 60 groups on three stages.

Salsa al Parque, featuring national and international musicians and dancers, will run from August 22 to 30. It will showcase a new creative work based on the music of Cartagenian musician Joe Arroyo.

The 14th annual Jazz al Parque will run from September 7 to 13.

Hip-Hop al Parque will run from October 18 to 13 and will focus on a commitment to cultural
rights, youth, and sports demonstrations.

Ópera al Parque will be held in November, exact dates to be announced.
