Coroners confirm that body discovered in Meta is kidnapped Colombian sergeant

A post-mortem investigation has confirmed that a body discovered Thursday is that of kidnapped Colombian Sergeant Francisco Aldemar Franco Zamora, newspaper El Espectador reports.

Investigators from the Prosecutor General’s Office exhumed his body in a rural area near the town of San Jose del Guaviare.

Sergeant Franco was abducted along the banks of the Guaviare River on March 21, 2009, while leading anti-guerilla operations near the village of Casa Azul. Prosecutors believe he was killed two months after being kidnapped.

The Colombian army has accused FARC of the murder.
