Bloody weekend in Valle del Cauca kills 9

The Valle del Cauca region in south-west Colombia suffered a particularly violent weekend, with nine people killed in four different incidents, reports RCN Radio.

In Buga, a town in the center of the region, a family of three was gunned down in their home.

Luis Carlos Arenas Muñoz, 59; his wife Olga Cecilia Serna, 55; and their 21-year-old daughter were killed, possibly by a debtor who owed them money, according to police.

Two other incidents took place in the northern part of the region, the first in the municipality of La Union where two men, aged 54 and 23, were killed.

The second killing happened in Cairo, where a 34-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son were murdered.

The final incident occurred in Cali, where two young men were shot while attending the funeral of a man who had died while attempting to rob a merchant.
