Blair praises Santos

Former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair praised Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos in a letter published in newspaper El Tiempo.

Blair, who is a personal friend of Colombia’s president, wrote that Santos will be able to achieve “real results,” during his presidential term.

“In the next few years in power, President Santos will need courage, resolution and drive to make his reforms successful,” wrote the former U.K. leader.

Santos “can be confident that he will achieve real results; results that improve the prosperity and the daily life of all Colombians,” Blair added.

“In this task, his principles of good governance, his broad experience and the traits of his character will serve him well,” added the Brit, who said he knew Santos’ “personal style of compassionate pragmatism” that will allow the Colombian president to “take the lead and adapt to challenges he faces.”

Santos visited Blair in July after his election as president.
