Betancourt vows to spend year on book

Ingrid Betancourt says she plans to drop out of the limelight for a year to write a book on her life.

Betancourt is visiting Mexico City as part of a Latin American tour
to seek help for captives still being held by leftist rebels.

The former Colombian presidential candidate told reporters Friday
that she was giving her last press conference before dedicating herself
to her book and personal reflection next year.

Betancourt also is urging Latin American leaders to work together to
combat kidnapping and apply pressure on the Revolutionary Armed Forces
of Colombia, or FARC.

Betancourt was rescued last July after being held for six years by the FARC. (AP)
