The Colombian Prosecutor General’s Office called 87 people for questioning on allegedly fraudulently granted agricultural subsidies.
The calls to cooperate with justie were sent to government officials, contracting companies and benificiaries of the Agro Ingreso Seguro subsidy.
The subsidy, granted by the country’s Agriculture Ministry under former Minister Andres Felipe Arias, was according to the books meant to promote equality in Colombia’s agricultural sector, but in dozens of cases ended up in the pockets of rich and powerful families on the north coast of the country.
Following reports in the media, the PG’s Office started an official investigation into the possible corruption involved in the granting of subsidy.
