Barranquilla residents can’t wait for carnival

The Barranquilla carnival this year will not start until March, but carnival-hungry residents have already declared the festive season officially opened.

According to local newspaper El Heraldo, one of the organizing committees of the carnival is organizing its first parade on Thursday which will be led by this year’s carnival prince and princess.

The parade can’t wait until after March 5 because the Day of San Sebastian, the patron saint of the carnival, is February 20, one of the organizers told the newspaper.

The official carnival will be held from March 5 until March 8 and is one of the biggest cultural events in Colombia.
