Avianca signs deal with United Airlines

Colombian airline Avianca signs a code-sharing agreement with the U.S.’s United Airlines, bringing it a step closer to joining the Star Alliance.

Avianca and United’s agreement will take effect in April of this year, La Republica reported Friday.

In November 2010 Avianca announced plans to join the Star Alliance flight network in 2012. The recent agreement puts Avianca closer to becoming a full member of the network.

Avianca’s code-sharing deal with United will provide customers of both airlines with more flight options and make it easier to book transferring flights within Colombia and the U.S.
