Authorities to seize assets of health insurance companies held abroad

Authorities prepare to seize assets from insurance companies (EPS) being investigated for fraud. Some have holdings in Panama, Mexico, Switzerland and Dubai.

Colombian judicial police, DIJIN, announced Friday they are preparing an investigative report to deliver to the comptroller general who will be in charge of the legal process of recuperating funds that were fraudulently gained by a number of insurance companies (EPS) in Colombia.

DIJIN director, General Carlos Mena, reported that the prosecutor general has appointed three prosecutors to speed up the investigation of over 34 healthcare managers suspected of stealing over $2.5 billion in government funds intended for health care for Colombia’s citizens.

Insurance company Saludcoop was repossessed by the Superintendent of Health on Thursday for reported irregularities in financial flows and debt payment. According to Mena, Saludcoop has assets and offices in Panama.
