Authorities seize ton of cocaine near Cartagena

In a joint operation between the Colombian coast guard and air force, a one ton haul of high-purity cocaine was seized from a speed boat carrying the load, following a high speed chase 35 nautical miles off the coast of Colombian port city Cartagena.

According to authorities, the drug haul was camouflaged inside the boat’s interior and is believed to belong to a drug trafficking network, which planned to move the shipment from Cartagena east to the La Guajira department and on to Venezuela.

Three were arrested when the haul was seized and investigators say they plan to find out if the network has any other international trafficking routes.
