Colombian authorities say they have proof that the union leader who was
found in a FARC camp had ties to the guerrillas and wasn’t kidnapped as
he claims.
According to the website of CM&, photos on a FARC computer that was seized show union leader Juan Efraín Mendoza Gamba with recently arrested guerrilla ‘El Negro Antonio’.
The unionist, Juan Efraín Mendoza Gamba, was arrested by the Army
Friday in the same anti-insurgency operation that killed eleven
guerrillas and during which prominent FARC member ‘El Negro Antonio’
was arrested.
Mendoza claims he had been kidnapped by the FARC just days before, but “he was captured with campaign material and a cell phone….and hostages don’t carry cell phones,” police commander Jairo Herazo said.
The police say Mendoza made contradictory statements during hearings.
According to authorities, Mendoza’s union, Fensuagro, has ties to the guerrillas. The agricultural union’s president is in jail because she allegedly had a romancewith slain FARC commander Raúl Reyes.
