Authorities investigate murder of journalist

Colombian authorities begun investigating the murder of a Cauca
journalist Saturday. They are offering a 50 million peso reward for
information leading to the capture of the murderer.

The 72-year old J. Everardo Aguilar was murdered in his home in El Bordo, Cauca by a young man who had entered the house under false pretenses before shooting the experienced journalist.

“He was a person who, without fear and with his personal style, always denounced the corrupt and acts of corruption that took place on the different levels of the administration,” the journalist’s employer Radio Super said in a statement.

President Uribe said he regretted the murder and offered a 50 million reward that would lead to the capture of those responsible for the assassination.

The murder of Aguilar is the first murder of a journalist since 2007.
