Authorities deny Minister’s brother receives special treatment

Colombia’s prison authority INPEC Monday denied allegations that
Guillermo Valencia Cossio, brother of the Interior and Justice Minister
was allowed a cell phone and received masseuses in jail.

According to INPEC, “mister Valencia Cossio has not received any priviliges that place him in different conditions than other prisoners,” adding that “at the site where inmate Valencia Cossio is, the possession of cell phones is prohibited.”

Earlier Monday, the prosecutor in charge of the case against the former Medellin District Attorney had said Valencia Cossio was receiving special treatment ordered by his brother, Interior and Justice Minister Fabio Valencia Cossio.

The former Medellin District Attorney is awaiting trial for corruption charges. he is alleged to have favored now jailed drug king pin ‘Don Mario‘.
