Authorities capture 20 members of drug gang

by Adriaan Alsema March 14, 2009

Colombian police say they arrested twenty former members of the ELN who had converted themselves into a drug gang.

The twenty suspects were arrested in several cities across the country, including the capital Bogota.

According to director Felipe Muños of intelligence agency DAS, 150 security officals were involved in a raids.

The arrested men allegedlybelong to the gang of Victor Ramón ‘Megateo’ Navarro Serrano, a former ELN boss that still is suspected of leading some hundred men and is trafficking drugs for leftist groups like the FARC and ELN.

The National Government offers a 400 million peso (US$156 thousand) reward for information leading to the capture of ‘Megateo’.
