Authorities arrest FARC guerrilla guilty of massacre

by Adriaan Alsema August 28, 2010

Colombia news - Bojaya

A member of the FARC, convicted for a 2002 massacre that killed 119 civilians, was arrested on Friday, authorities say.

According to the national government, the guerrilla, Harbey Torres Ayala, alias “Isaias,” was arrested in Uraba, a region in the north-west of Colombia.

“Isaias” will have to serve a 37-year jail sentence for the mortar attack on a church in Bojaya on May 2, 2002. 119 civilians who were in the church hiding from fighting between paramilitary organization AUC and guerrillas of the FARC were killed.
