Authorities arrest alleged leader of Cuchillo’s assassins

Colombian authorities say they have arrested ‘Sebastian’, the alleged leader of the assassins of paramilitary drug lord ‘Cuchillo’.

Elver ‘Sebastian’ Leon Merchan is an alleged member of Cuchillo’s Popular Revolutionary Anti-Terrorist Army (ERPAC) and is said to be in charge of the paramilitaries’ assassins squad and the export of illicit drugs. He was arrested in Miraflores, a town in the south east of Colombia.

Leon Marchan is accused of aggravated murder, forced disappearance, and conspiring to commit a crime.

According to authorities, ‘Sebastian’ is responsible for the murder of a local leader of the Union Patriotica, a political party aligned to the FARC, whose members were systematically murdered by paramilitaries in the 1980s.
