Colombia’s National Police Thursday admitted to not having handed over
the remains of slain FARC commander ‘Raúl Reyes’ to his family, despite
authorities repeatedly claiming that they had.
According to the Police, the FARC commander was given a “Christian burial”, but for safety reasons and out of respect for his family, the exact location of the body will not be revealed. The Police did say it is now “ready” to surrender the remains to his family.
The whereabouts of the remains of ‘Reyes’ have long been unclear. The family of the FARC commander said they were never given the oppurtunity to bury their relative, while authorities claimed they had surrendered the remains following protocol.
The Red Cross had urged the Government to hand over the body Wednesday.
