Attorney general wants international help for west Colombia

Colombia’s Attorney General Edgardo Maya wants the government to
declare a state of ecological emergency in the west of Colombia to be
able to seek international aid for weather victims.

In Chocó, the San Juan river flooded a number of towns and has cut off water supplies. Because sceptic tanks have flooded and the contents have polluted the water, there’s a high risk of diseases.

Flooded roads and cut phone lines are hampering efforts to deliver aid to the affected population.

According to Caracol Radio, the second rainy season this year left 59 people dead. 18,000 reportedly are missing.
