The defense lawyer of the editor of a FARC-friendly website said Thursday Colombia’s prosecution has claimed the attorney is a military spy and that the guerrilla group ordered his death.
Rodolfo Rios, a prominent communist and lawyer known for defending the interests of killed FARC leaders’ relatives, said evidence presented by the Prosecutor General’s Office in the case against ANNCOL editor Joaquin Perez has indicated he is collaborating with military intelligence and that the guerrilla group wants him dead.
“Among the evidence of the Prosecutor General and Interpol, two elements appeared in which is said I would be working with military intelligence and that the FARC declared me a military target,” Rios told newspaper El Espectador.
In a letter published on leftist website Kaosenlared at the end of July, leftist Senator Gloria Inez Ramirez called the presented evidence presented by the prosecutors an “absurd plot.”
“We reject the accusations against our fellow attorney Rodolfo Rios Lozano that appear in the presented evidence … We reiterate that we reject any sinister and criminal intent to endanger the life of our fellow attorney. We reject the slanderous accusations … Rios is no ‘snitch’ of Colombia’s right-wing regime, but a person dedicated to national order who enjoys a lot of respect and prestige.”
According to El Espectador, the attorney expressed to fear for his life because of the allegations.
