Helicopter crash in central Colombia kills 5

At least five members of the military were killed and another six injured on Tuesday when two helicopters crashed into each other in the central Colombian department of Tolima, the armed forces say.

The two Bell 222 helicopters crashed above land near the town of Chaparral.

A third army helicopter flew the injured to a hospital in the nearby Neiva department.

The helicopters are part of a large operation in the Tolima and Cauca department aimed at killing or capturing Alfonso Cano, the supreme leader of Colombia’s largest rebel group FARC.
