Assets of paramilitaries will be confiscated to pay victims, Uribe says

Uribe said in a press conference, broadcast live on Colombian television, the 14 right-wing militia bosses violated Colombia’s peace process by failing to confess to all their crimes, surrender their assets and stop breaking the law.Thousands of victims have yet to see any compensation from the paramilitaries five years after the peace deal. They worry that Tuesday’s extraditions on drug-related charges will help the warlords to evade justice for human rights abuses. But the U.S. State Department says America’s courts can help the victims by sharing information on atrocities with Colombian authorities.
