Colombian government figured on the number of guerrillas,
paramilitaries and members of drug gangs killed, captured or
demobilized are vastly exaggerated, Colombian NGO Codhes says
in a report.
According to BBC News, the respected NGO analyzed the statistics of recent sucesses claimed by the government in Colombia’s 44-year-old civil conflict.
The government statistics show 114,000 members of illegal armed groups were either killed, captured or demobilized, but other estimates speak of only 30,000.
The numbers given by the government suggest that eight members of illegal armed groups are killed every single day in Colombia, something that isn’t substantiated by any other source, the Codhes report “The figures do not add up” says.
