Army seeks soon capture of FARC commander Grannobles

Members of the Colombian army Wednesday started heavy fighting with FARC
guerrillas near the Venezuelan border. The army is after FARC commander
‘Grannobles’, brother of rebel secretariat member ‘Mono Jojoy’.

The fighting is taking place in the rural area around Arauquita, just miles from the Venezuelan border.

According to army sources, the air force bombed guerrilla camps in the region, following an offensive by ground troops.

The army is trying to take out Germán ‘Grannobles’  Briceño Suárez, brother of the infamous FARC commander ‘Mono Jojoy’.

“In Arauca, just like in all parts of the country, we are advancing operations to meet the objective of our campaign and that is to militarily take out the terrorist threat,” army commander Oscar González told Spanish press agency Efe.
