Army sacks general who failed to capture drug lords

The Colombian army sacked a general who had earlier been called into
question by President Álvaro Uribe for failing to capture alleged drug
lords ‘El Loco’ Barrera and ‘Chuchillo’.

General Guillermo Quiñónez was the operations chief of the army and until a month ago commander of the 4th division, based in Villavicencio.

After November’s military purge that cost three generals their job and made army chief Mario Montoya resign, Uribe publicly asked if the division of Quiñónez was trying to capture or preventing to capture thealleged drug lords.
