Army kills 9 guerrillas in east Colombia

Colombian armed forces on Monday claimed to have killed nine guerrillas in the north eastern department of Arauca. One suspected guerrilla was arrested.

The casualties and arrest are the result of an army offensive aimed to capture or kill German Briceño, alias “Grannobles,” brother of senior FARC commander “Mono Jojoy.”

According to the military, the guerrillas all are part of the security ring around “Grannobles,” who commands the guerrillas’ 10th front, which is highly active in the region bordering Venezuela.
